The Optris GmbH has consistently enhanced its product range during the past months and introduced with its CT series a product family, which covers the most common applications within the infrared temperature measurement technology.
Therefore the CT series can be used by customers within different industries for their processes. New benchmarks will be set for applications in OEM solutions and multiple applications within infrared measurement points due to the smallness of the products and the very advantageous prices.
Innovative infrared thermometers cover temperature ranges from -50°C to 1800°C and see to it that their signal processing covers fast temperature changes starting from 1 msec. Small objects starting from 0.5 mm can be measured through powerful optics. The miniaturized sensing head of only 14 mm diameter and 28 mm length fits into small and tight environments. Separated from the electronic box the products can also be used in electro-magnetic environments without interruptions (e.g. close to inductors, etc.). The integration of the products into existing and planned constructions is eased through versatile alternatives for data output (digital / analogue), easy accessible programming buttons as well as an intelligent display on the electronic box.
The short wave length infrared thermometers CT 1M, CT 2M and CT 3M are used for metal surfaces. With a starting temperature of 50°C monitoring metals and composites within manufacturing processes can be achieved close to room temperature. For high temperature applications the devices are calibrated up to 1800°C. The sensing heads can be used at a surrounding temperature up to 125°C without a cooling support.
The device CT G5 is used for temperature measurement of glass surfaces (flat glass, container glass, solar cells, etc.) ranging from 100°C to 1650°C. A reliable measurement can be secured through the wave length of 5.2 µm. Further Optris developed a narrowband measuring device – CT P7 – for the measurement of thin foils from e.g. polyether sulphone, polyurethane and Teflon.
For the measurement of non-metal surfaces such as plastics or paper the CT LT has been developed. With temperature ranges from -50°C to 975°C and maximum surface temperatures of 180C the devices can be used for universal applications. Already small objects starting from 0.5 mm size can be measured with the CT LT. The special design CTfast has an acquisition time of 9 msec and is used in especially fast processes (e.g. temperature measurement in printing machines). The device CThot allows the implementation of the sensing heads within a surrounding temperature of up to 250°C without any cooling device. This one-of-a-kind version alleviates the implementation of infrared thermometers within a number of application into dryers, kilns or heat treatment equipment.

The Optris GmbH is expanding the product range of infrared thermometers, with the new optris CT ratio 1M
The miniaturized Infrared Thermometer optris CTratio 1M was designed for measurements of metals of, metal oxides and ceramic materials and materials in semi-conductor industry under harsh environments.
The optrisCT ratio 1M is a fiber optics ratio thermometer for all temperature measurements from 700°C up to 1800°C in metal industry as casting, welding, forming and sintering. Due to ratio principle it is insensitive to certain dust and partially obstructed targets.
The small size and the attractive price are setting a new standard for the use with OEM applications and when a multiple application is required. The fiber optics ratio thermometer is using a 2 channel measurement principle. Two built in infrared detection channels with relatively closely spaced but mutually different measuring wavelengths produce two independent electrical signals. These signals are dependent on the infrared radiation emitted from the target and signal components, which are caused mainly from influences of the optical transmission path between the object and the pyrometer, or from changes of the object by motion or changes in size.

The ratio thermometer principle allows by taking the ratio of the two signals the elimination of any signal parts that are similar in both channels. The measured temperature of the object depends only on the signal ratio and the emissivity ratio, the so called slope value
For the slope values similar to the well-known emissivity tables adequate tables for all usual material surfaces and material conditions are available. The ratio principle for the measurement of objects with unknown or changing emissivity provides very good results, assuming that the emissivity ratio is not changing over time or temperature.
This figure is showing the typical temperature reading of a ratio thermometer optris CT ratio 1M in both the 1 and the 2 channel mode in addiction of increasing contamination of the optical transmission path inbetween the target and the ratio thermometer. Due to the ratio principle the 2 channel signal stays very stable over a wide range of attenuation up to over 90%. The signal of the 1 channel mode , acting like in a standard pyrometer with one measuring wavelength only , is decreasing rapidely with the contamination of the transmission path. In a dusty atmosphere of an industrial process it would
This graph is illustrating the extraordinary quality of the ratio thermometer optris CT ratio 1M. It shows the remarkable small deviations of temperature readings of 0,3K to 3K by measuring an object of 1012°C in a range of attenuation of 0% (clean optics) to 85% (optics strongly contaminated). This quality is warranted by smart signal processing methodes and the use of achromatic lenses.
The very small sensing head of the optris CT ratio 1M with 25mm diameter and 70mm length fits everywhere into small and tight spaces. A glass fiber cable is connecting the optical sensor head and the electronic box. The optics and the glass fiber cables are usable up to 250°C ambient temperature without the need of cooling.
Fast temperature measurements up from 5 ms response time can be done. An optical resolution of 80:1 with selectable focus allows in conjunction with the built-in laser aiming accurate measurements from a spot size up from 1.3 mm.
The operator has the choice between the 1 - and / or 2-channel mode (ratio thermometer mode) to optimize the adaptation to the measuring task, so, the user can select the better one without purchasing additional infrared sensors.
By using a glass fiber between sensor head and electronic box, the optrisCTratio 1M is insensitive against electromagnetic influence (EMI) occurring in heat treatment processes based on induction principles
Other typical applications of fiber optic thermometer optrisCT ratio 1M are the use in the metal industry for temperature measurements on the pouring stream of casting machines, during reheating of steel ingots and steel billets for forging processes, in general soldering and welding processes and process steps in the production of materials for the semiconductor and photovoltaic industry.
The electronic box allows the programming of the sensor, the temperature display and easy wiring of the analog outputs 0/4-20mA and 0-5/10V for the transmission of signals into industrial control cabinets. For integration into networks Optris provides for all CT series infrared thermometers an integrated Profibus DP interface (optional) or other plug in digital interfaces (optional) like USB, RS232, RS485 or Ethernet. A programmable signal processing ensures optimal adaptation to the production regime, eg by a smart peak hold function.
The user friendly software OptrisConnect offers a graphical display and storage of the temperature readings of all channels and the signal characteristics over time, a parameterization of the measurement modes and a quick indication of the potential contamination of the optics of the measurement system, the so called dirty lens alarm.
The technology company Optris GmbH is specialized in the development, production and sales of non contact infrared thermometers. The product range comprises online and handheld temperature sensors as well as online infrared cameras and calibration sources.

With the infrared portable thermometer series MS Optris sets a new performance standard on the infrared market. The combination of modern industry design and outstanding technical parameters has been consequently further developed, but not only concerning the devices - also the software has got some new features.
On the new MS series the outer appearance as well as the technical parameters
speak for themselves: Wide temperature ranges of -32 to 760°C, laser aiming and optical resolutions of up to 40:1 allow technicians to carry out accurate noncontact surface measurements for electrical and mechanical maintenance, HVAC checks, automotive testing and other applications, anywhere that temperature is a factor.
The optris MS thermometers enable you to detect hot or cold objects as small as 13 mm within 0,3 seconds.
The MS Series – consisting of the MS, the MSPlus and the MSPro – are all equipped with an USB interface. This feature together with the new OptrisConnect Report Software (already included in scope of supply of MSPlus and MSPro) is the solution for recording and displaying temperature profiles. Furthermore instrument settings can be changed and logger data processed and reported to the PC.
Via the tripod adapter the devices can now easily be used for longtime temperature measurements.
The new adjustable acoustic HIGH-/LOW-alarm with changing backlight colors is especially useful in loud surroundings. For the use of the MS in rough application areas a special rubber protection boot has been developed. This accessory protects the devices for pollution and splash water and is included in delivery for MSPlus and MSPro.
As a special highlight of the new OptrisConnect Report Software you can create now image based temperature reports. Thereby the current values measured with the MS will be projected into a photo taken before with a digital camera. This is an efficient and easy way to document the results of your measurements. These reports can easily be used in programs like MS Word or PowerPoint.
For ecological reasons all our packaging is only made of paper and cardboard.

The Optris GmbH presents a new innovative range of infrared sensors and imaging systems especially created for applications ranging from silicon and wafer production, to photovoltaic cell and module. These infrared thermometers are applicable in silicon - based solar cells production as well as in the very new style based on III/V, II/VI and I/III/VI materials. Optris offers efficient solutions for online process control to reach high product quality, productivity and cost reduction.
The optris CT1M, CT2M and CT3M are high temperature sensors perfectly adapted for noncontact measurement of wavelength from 1,0 µm, 1,6 µm and 2,3 µm used in special steps of wafer and pre-product generation with temperature ranges from 50°C to 1800°C. These sensors are characterized by their small sensor head size with 14 mm diameter and 28 mm length and their attractive price. If an additional aiming of the measuring area is required, t he double laser aiming with two laser beams marks at any distance the real spot size up from 0,45 mm to 0,7mm in order to avoid wrong measurements. The cost – performance ratio is excellent. Most common pyrometers are using center laser beam through the lens sighting or video sighting just marking the center and the roughly, but not the real spot size.
During the coating and lamination process of cells and modules you have to ensure a homogenous coating of surfaces using high temperature resolution accuracy. The optris CS m hs sets a new benchmark in low noise IR-thermometry. It is suitable for relative measurement of smallest temperature differences of 0,025°C. It is using a new type of infrared detector with an extra high sensitivity. The thermal and electronic design of the optris CS m hs is ensuring a very low ambient drift. It contains no moving parts like chopper wheels or similar. Vacuum sealed heads and customized vacuum applications allow an adaptation in and on reactors and production chambers. Typical applications of such type of IR sensor can be found in semiconductor processing and high quality glass production. In the processing of modern products like solar panels or TV flat screen displays and monitors a high homogeneity of special coatings on glass and other substrate is essential needed. The optris CS m hs has stainless steel housing and very compact dimensions: diameter of 30 mm and a length of 50 mm. It fits in narrow spaces in all industrial environments.
The jointing process from solar cells to solar modules requires a careful treatment of the cells during soldering. The optris PI Infrared Imager is a full radiometric thermographic device, showing temperature images and profiles of the target area to be observed. It is a new state of the art thermal imager with ready to use USB 2.0 interface for real-time thermography with 100 Hz frame rate - up to 20 m cable length. The measurement temperature ranges of -20...100°C, 0...250°C and optional 120...900°C are switchable to adapt the imager to the application needs. With the optris PI the customer can optimize careful heat treatments and speed of the process.
All optris devices from the optris CT series are equipped with the monitor box. You can easily see the temperature, program the sensor and read out the analog signals like 0/4-20mA, 0-5/10V, thermocouple type K or J. Optris provides you for all sensors of the CT series integrated digital interfaces like Profibus DP, CAN open, USB, RS232, RS485 or Ethernet (optional).
The software PI connect includes a recording function with radiometric video, snap shot, an analysis and post processing of infrared images and videos. It offers a complete set up of parameters and remote control of the infrared imager. The software PI Connect offers different colour palettes like iron, rainbow, black-white and black-white inverted.
The technology company Optris GmbH is specialized in the development, production and sales of noncontact infrared thermometers. The product range comprises online and handheld temperature sensors as well as online infrared cameras and calibration sources.

The optris CThot allows temperature measurements and the use of the IR sensor head under environmental temperatures up to 250°C without
any need of cooling. New detector materials, a new mechanical design and high temperature cables allow the optris CThot to withstand
harsh environmental conditions. A robust and massive but yet compact housing is adaptable to common industrial mountings, brackets and
flanges.
More and more modern heat treatment lines are constructed inside the machine in a very compact design for high process efficiency , there is no way to place sighting tubes etc. for measuring from outside the process chamber. Compact (IR) sensors withstanding the heat inside the process chamber/oven are the deal.
Main application field of such type of sensors is the control of drying and finishing processes of textile fabric, carpet, paper, cardboard, corrugated paper, plasterboard sheets, timber and plastic compounds. Optris CThot sensors inside heat treatment lines with several process chambers measure temperatures of the web/fabric at different points over the length and the witdth. The customer gets information about the drying curve , moisture content, non uniform application of coatings and fixing. The process engineer can optimize the energy flow and energy consumption, the speed and the product quality.
The narrow beam optics of these sensors with a high optical resolution of 10:1 allows oblique aiming to avoid material dependent temperature readings. Under these oblique viewing angels the effective emissivity of textiles is independent of its thickness and type of fabric. So the customer can measure thick textile fabric or light fabric like curtain material in the same way.
A response time of 30ms is a big benefit and is setting a benchmark in these sensor family. Most of the rival products are much slower (in the range of seconds) , and they have a more worse optical resolution (1:3 or less) , making material independent measurements more difficult.
The optris CThot is usable in a varity of applications in dryers, ovens, heat treatment lines in the metal and glass industry, paper, plastic and textile manufacturing and semiconductor processing in the temperature range of -40 to 975°C.
The monitor box for programming and temperature display allows the easy wiring of the standard analog outputs 0/4-20mA, 0-5/10V , thermocouple type K or J.
Optris offers for all CT series infrared thermometers an integrated Profibus DP interface (optional) or other plug in digital interfaces (optional) like USB, RS232, RS485 or CAN.
The new miniaturized Infrared Thermometer CT 2M for high temperature measurements - one of the smallest worldwide:
The miniaturized Infrared Thermometer CT 2M with 1,6µm wave lenght range was designed for measurements of metals , of secondary metal processing , metal oxides and ceramic materials.
The very small sensing head of the CT 2M with 14mm diameter and 28mm length fits everywhere into small and tight environments. It is usable up to 125°C ambient temperature without cooling.
The measuring temperature ranges from 250°C to 1600°C , an optics of 75:1 with measuring spots up from 1,5 mm is setting a new standard in this class of instrumentation. A new detector and a fast signal processing allow response times up from 1 ms.
The short measuring wave length of 1,6µm reduces error of temperature readings on surfaces with low or unknown emissivity.
High electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) allows applications in induction welding and soldering processes.
The new Infrared Thermometer optris CTglass with 5,2µm wave length:
The optris CTglass is designed for accurate glass temperature measurements on flat glass lines, container glass machines, in the bulb manufacturing, car glass finishing and the production of solar panels in the temperature range of 100 up to 1650°C.
The measuring wave lenght of 5,2µm provides a low depth of penetration for the infrared measurement , because the transmission of glass within 5,2µm is very low. With the use of shorter wave length the infrared thermometers would measure through the glass, with a longer wave length reflection effects occure.
The measurement of temperature at critical locations in the process line is essential for a overall control of glass product manufacture.
In container glass manufacturing the operator has to obtain the measurement of gob temperature to observe the ratio between glass viscosity and gob weight. The mould temperature measurement is important for balancing the cooling levels of mould shells.
In sterilisation procedures of glass bottles for pharmaceutic products a certain temperature level control is essential.
A wide field of applications in the production of flat glass, construction glass and automotive glass are measurements in bending ,annealing and tempering zones to get a high homogeneity of the whole glass panel.
A very modern field of applications we find in semiconductor processing and the manufacturing of solar cell panels where glas is used beside other materials as a basic substrate.
The double laser aiming of the optris CTglass marks the real spot location and spot size up from 1mm at any distance. This helps in all modern applications where “size of spot matters”.
A robust but yet compact stainless steel sensor head is adaptable to common industrial mountings.
The optics 70:1 with selectable focus provides a smallest spot of 1mm , the smallest spot of competitors is 2,5mm in this class of devices.
The optris CTglass is usable up to 85°C ambient temperature without cooling and has an automatic laser switch off at 50°C . Cooling and protection accessories for harsh environmental conditions are available.
The Infrared Thermometer optris CTlaser with 75:1 optical resolution:
The optris CTlaser is an all purpose universal high performance infrared thermometer for the temperature range of -40°C to 975°C. Its predestinated for most of all noncontact temperature measurements in industrial applications where “size of spot matters”.
The optris CTlaser combines the accuracy of a 75:1 infrared optics with small spots sizes, the low temperature measurement and exact aiming. And all of this within an affordable price Optris is famous for.
It allows low and high temperature measurements of smallest spots up from 0,9mm without the need of mechanical choppers. The double laser aiming marks real spot location and spotsize at any distance. The optics 75:1 with selectable focus at distances from 70mm to 1260mm is generating unbeatable small spots at low temperatures of 0,9mm at 70mm or for instance 1,9mm at 150mm distance.
The measurement of small spots is much easier at higher temperatures. A wide varity of such kind of art infrared thermometers is available on the market. The low energy measurement at lower temperatures needs within classical pyrometers: choppering of signals, big size of detectors or/and longer response times. The new super sensitive detectors, developed at Optris, bring these challenges under control.
The optris CTlaser F (fast) is dedicated for scanning of fast moving objects at low temperatures up from 9ms exposure time.
The optris CTlaser is usable up to 85°C ambient temperature without cooling and automatic laser switch off at 50°C . It features analog outputs 0/4-20mA, 0-5/10V , thermocouple type K or J and the optional integrated Profibus DP interface or other plug in digital interfaces (optional) like USB, RS232, RS485 or CAN.
The new Software CompactConnect for all models of Optris online infrared thermometers:
The CompactConnect Software is used for easy sensor setup and remote controlling, it supports multi tasking. It has a Graphic display for temperature trends and an automatic data logging for analysis and documentation with 1 ms response time. The customer can do adjustments of signal processing functions and can programthe outputs and functional inputs of the sensor. It allows automatic emissivity adjustment. It makes customization of sensors to customer needs easy. The software CompactConnect is included in all Optris RS232 and Optris USB interface accessory kits.
